This blog entry provides you with the main resources for downloading, installing and operating Wazapp for the Nokia N9.
Official Beta version 0.2.7
Wazapp is the unofficial developer version of the popular Whatsapp instant messaging app. It is currently in Beta version and there are also more advanced Developer versions available. The Beta version is available for download from the official wazapp website (link below). The Beta version is stable, but may offer fewer features than Developer versions
You can download the current Beta version (0.2.7) of wazapp from http://www.wazapp.im/
You can familiarise yourself with the latest features and change log from the first post of the Wazapp thread at TMO here.
If you are downloading from your N9 browser, click the download link, select save file. Wait for the update to download, then select from the downloads window. Agree to installing third-party / non-Nokia Store apps and install.
Once the update has been installed, you may need to Quit Wazapp from the menu and restart it. That will activate the new version.
Latest Developer builds of Wazapp
As the name suggests, these are more experimental versions of the Wazapp app; they generally include more features but can have a few bugs.
The latest Developer app can be found at the Wazapp wiki which is host at Maemo.org and can be found at this link.
The Wiki is an excellent resource to find information on:
- The current features available in the latest Developer version
- Screenshots of the app
- Supported languages; and
- Access to the latest downloadable version.
The latest Developer version at the time of writing this article is wazapp-20092012-1225.deb
Downloading via PC and Installing via Terminal
A further method to download and install the “.deb” file is via your PC. This method is especially useful if you are having difficulties downloading from your N9′s browser.
For those of you with Windows PCs (like me) simply download the file to your computer. The connect your N9 via USB cable and select “Use as mass storage”. Using Windows Explorer, copy the ‘.deb’ file across to your N9 to home/user/MyDocs/Downloads
Now activate Developer mode (go to Settings > Security > Developer mode and switch the toggle to activate Developer mode. Now open Terminal from your App Launcher screen and follow the instructions here.
